CONOR MCGREGOR – Express Sport brings you the latest news on the former UFC lightweight champion.
Conor McGregor has Khabib Nurmagomedov rematch shot down
UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has once again dashed Conor McGregor’s hopes of a rematch, claiming the Irishman doesn’t deserve an immediate shot at redemption.
“I have a big team. You know, my father, Javier Mendez, my management. And everybody thinks a little bit different,” Nurmagomedov told Submission Radio when asked his coach’s interest in a rematch with ‘The Notorious’.
“If you talk about it, my father thinks different, Javier [Mendez] thinks different, my management thinks different.
“But when the athletic commission makes a decision, we’re gonna sit with my old team and make a decision what I’m gonna do next.
“But right now, if you guys ask me, of course, he [Conor McGregor does] not deserve a title shot rematch, Conor, because he lose, he tapped.
“It wasn’t a close fight. I dominated him everywhere in every aspect and I beat him. Like a told, I smashed him. Why we need a rematch?”
UFC president Dana White has revealed he’s open to booking McGregor vs Cerrone after ‘The Notorious’ publicly accepted ‘Cowboy’s’ challenge.
“I mean, anything’s possible,” White said. “If those guys want and the fans want to see it, that’s what I do.
“Obviously, don’t run out there and say that’s the fight I’m making.
“I don’t know what I’m going to do. But I like the fact that two of these guys that are complete dogs and fight anybody are willing to fight each other. That’s fun.”
Conor McGregor slammed by Al Iaquinta
UFC lightweight standout Al Iaquinta has launched another scathing attack on McGregor, who he’s claimed lacks heart when he’s pressured in a fight.
“Conor’s skills are great,” ‘Ragin’ said. “His mental warfare leading up to the fight, he is the best at it right now. And then when he goes in there (the octagon) he is dangerous.
He is a great bully, he walks across the cage and just gets right after it. You know, but, a little bit further down the line and you can see it on his face. The moment the momentum switches in a Conor McGregor fight.
“When I visualise the fight, I see him coming across all cocky and coming after me with all the heavy shots and then, you know, he just stops looking like Conor McGregor. Just like Kevin Lee did not look like Kevin Lee later in the fight. Just like Khabib did not look like Khabib. Just like ‘Gamebrad’ did not look like Masvidal.
“Conor is not going to look like himself in there. You will see that switch in his face when he realises he is in there with a bad motherf****r. And somebody that he is going to have to kill to get out of there.
“I don’t think Conor is willing to die, he’s got a lot of money and a lot of other things going on. So to put it all on the line in a cage when you have all that stuff.
“I look up to him for what he’s done but I’ve got something he doesn’t have, and no money can buy that. I hope I get that fight (with McGregor), because I know what I can do against an opponent like that. I think it would be very similar to the Kevin Lee fight in a lot of ways.”
